Benefits of a Floor Bed for Toddlers
Your child will gain independence.
After being confined to the limits of a crib, a toddler bed on the floor will give your child freedom of movement.
Freedom to explore is essential to the Montessori method!
They will gain more independence by having access to their books and quiet toys during naps and as well as when they first wake in the morning.
It will also make night time potty training easier if your child struggles with fear of getting in and out of a raised bed by themselves.
You won’t have to worry about safety.
Transitioning from the crib to a floor bed prevents your toddler from falling while accidentally rolling.
You can buy crib rails to solve that issue, but a floor mattress allows them to get in and out very easily.
Less stress = happier mama!
You are giving them trust to make their own decisions.
This is why the age recommendation for floor beds is between ages 2-3… a baby will not be able to feel trust, power and initiative just yet.
Initially your child may wander around their room and take awhile to fall asleep. It’s all part of the process!
Eventually they will learn to manage this new found independence though and take themselves to bed when they are ready to fall asleep.
You turn their bed into a fun and inviting spot they’ll want to hang out in all day long.
Because you’ve made their mattress so easily accessible, you’ll likely find them reading books or playing dolls for hours on it.
It will quickly become their favorite play area…. dance parties will likely occur too!
Floor Bed Frames That Look Like A House
Now, one of the allures of a floor bed is that you don’t have to spend extra money on a bed frame. However, many of the floor bed photos we love have a house frame around the floor mattress.
Here are our favorites…
Option # 1 – Most Budget Friendly, Under $200
This floor bed comes in a variety of colors – beige, black, pink and white.
Note that it is only available in twin size.
It has no bottom, which keeps the cost down, so the mattress lays directly on the floor.
Option # 2 – Mid Range Pricing – Still Under $300
Our second option gives you more flexibility – it comes in both twin & full size.
It’s available in natural, white, black, pink, gray and this FUN green color!
Option # 3 – Priced On The Higher End, but Made of High Quality Materials
While this bed frame is only made in white and natural, it also comes in both twin & full size.
It’s made of durable, solid birch wood and covered in a child-safe, water-based protective topcoat.
Of all 3 options, it’s the only one that comes with solid poplar wood slats on the bottom which will extend the life of your child’s mattress.
More Cute Floor Bed Options That Will Complement Your Home Decor
LOVE the floral garland hung from the top – such a fun, girly accessory!
This bed color is so cute! It was also super creative to use a wood crate for a low “nightstand”.
