I am so excited to share our master bedroom makeover reveal with you. There are TONS of “After” photos at the end, including a side by side Before and After comparison. HINT: it’s drastic! Make sure you hover over each image you love and save to Pinterest!
If there is one thing I have learned from remodeling our home it is patience. Sometimes I get so focused on the end result that my mind skips over steps during the process. When my husband & I moved into our home, the master bedroom was as pictured below from the previous homeowner. It seemed as if it wasn’t touched since the home was built in 1989. The carpet color was mauve and the walls were a dreary, light pink. I couldn’t stand the sight of the carpet so it was replaced immediately upon move-in. At this point my husband was not a highly experienced painter so he opted to finish the painting before the new carpet was installed.
We had seen TV advertisements for carpet companies Luna and Empire Today. The ads are always boasting fifty to seventy percent off. After getting multiple price quotes, we quickly realized their “deeply discounted” prices were a sham. Thankfully I had asked for advice from friends and family for additional recommendations. A small, local company called Reliable Carpet offered the lowest pricing, and ultimately we were very pleased with the service, quality and installation.
I will be the first to admit I completely rushed through decorating the rest of the room. The wall color we chose, Sherwin Williams Fashionable Gray, appeared gray during the daytime, but turned out to have a distinct purple hue at nighttime. Since we did not own a King bed frame, we were sleeping on our mattress on the floor. I thought I had an idea of what I wanted, but eventually I was not happy with my bed and lighting choices (pictured below). It was a major improvement from where we started, but it was not the sanctuary I dreamt of.
The decision was made to completely start over, and the origin of my inspiration came from this Restoration Hardware Martens Four-Poster Bed. I saw it in a Restoration Hardware showroom, fell in love, but I knew I could not afford it full price. I saved the link to Pinterest, and six months later I finally scored the bed frame at 45% off!
The best design advice I’ve received is “be patient and let the room evolve”. The bed frame was back ordered two months so I did not purchase anything else while I waited for the bed delivery. Each night I tried searching for the perfect bedside tables, wall color, bedding, etc. I had to stop and remind myself to let the room evolve. I needed the bed in front of me before I could visualize what came next.
The backdrop of the room is the first thing you see so we really wanted to feature this wall. We selected Phillip Jeffries Bermuda Hemp textured wallpaper to be professionally installed. I remember walking into the room for the first time and it truly was breathtaking. Even the final reveal photos of the wallpaper do not do it justice.
I must have searched for bedside tables for months leading up to the wallpaper installation. We previously had nightstands with drawers, which turned into junk drawers, so I knew I wanted an open style nightstand. The four-poster canopy bed was very square with clean lines so I knew it needed unique bedside tables that stood out.
I found the Vanguard Furniture 9333L Strathmore End Table and the curved design was exactly what I had been looking for. The problem was that each end table was priced at $1,500. I appreciate well made furniture, but the price was insane. I saved the link to Pinterest, and kept scouring the internet for a similar end table. After no luck, I tried reaching out to a few local companies on Etsy who made furniture. I found the shop Guy Furniture Guy in Baltimore, Maryland who custom made the end tables for us. The final result was quality, look alike end tables at 75% off the original cost, and I will never know the difference.
I am so thrilled to share our After photos with you – some days I have to pinch myself to see if I am dreaming. Every detail works together harmoniously. The room became everything I have dreamt of, and the sanctuary we both deserve.
