Are you renovating your dated home? Do you have dark, old recessed lighting? I know it seems too good to be true, but you CAN update the look of all of your recessed lighting for only $3.98! Instead of replacing the whole fixture, or even buying all new baffle trim, you can spray paint the trim for a cheap upgrade. This easy DIY home improvement project will lighten and brighten your home in minutes and provide you with instant gratification without breaking the bank.
We had about twenty of these dark, dated recessed baffle trims throughout almost every room in our house. I’m on a constant mission to lighten, brighten, and neutralize our home so I really wanted to replace all of these. At a price of $7.50 each, it would have cost us $150 to replace all of them. I HATE spending money on things that aren’t “fun” projects so we came up with this brilliant idea to spray paint them.
Here are the Basic, Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Remove the light bulb and trim from your ceiling
- Set up a plastic drop cloth outside or in your garage
- Place the trim on the drop cloth and spray the paint evenly to cover
- Let dry thirty minutes and repeat as needed
I was skeptical at first. If it didn’t come out looking as good as new, I would have still bought brand new ones. I am a stickler for high quality things in our home. We took the risk, it paid off, and the process was easy! You literally cannot tell the difference in day light or at night time.
Pictured below is the spray paint product we used.
