Decorating Our Master Bedroom with Vaulted Ceilings

When my talented friend Tammy from Pink Peppermint Design asked me to join the Beautiful Bedrooms Tour, I couldn’t resist sharing how we decorated our master bedroom with vaulted ceilings. Two years ago, we gave our master bedroom a complete makeover and it has finally become the sanctuary we always dreamt of. You won’t believe what this room looked like before! If you are here from Life on Cedar Lane, welcome and thank you for stopping by The Greenspring Home.

I had to share the After photo with you first because the Before photo is so bad! This was the listing photo from the previous homeowner and what our master bedroom looked like when we moved in.

Can you believe it’s the same room?!

We updated the carpet the first week we moved in – I couldn’t take it. After that, my husband repainted the dingy, lavender walls shortly after. However, we didn’t completely redesign the rest of the room for about a year. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it yet, and we decided to renovate our kitchen and living room first.

See our living room renovation HERE

One of the things I loved about this house was that our master bedroom had 13-foot vaulted ceilings. I do think decorating a room with vaulted ceilings can be tricky though. You absolutely have to make sure you fill it with appropriately sized furniture! When we first moved in, we put our old tufted headboard in here and it looked so tiny against the huge wall behind it.

I’m so grateful for the invention of the canopy bed frame because it works perfectly in here! The bed frame is 7-foot tall which takes up a lot of the wall height.

We added grasscloth wallpaper to create a feature wall. If it was just drywall, it would be so boring! I love that the wallpaper immediately grabs your attention and gives the room a luxurious, hotel feel.

See those curved bedside tables? I fell in love with a designer version that cost $1,200 apiece. Since the bed frame is so square, I thought the open, curved design of the bedside tables brought the perfect contrast. Unfortunately $2,400 for two nightstands was not in the budget, so we had custom look-a-likes made by Guy Furniture Guy who is local here in Baltimore.

If you haven’t noticed, my decorating style is fairly minimal and simple. I prefer my surfaces clutter-free, styled with just the right amount of accessories.

Finally, I’ll share a bit more about my favorite bedding. I used to have really cheap bedding, and I never knew what I was missing until I bought this really soft, comfortable duvet and duvet cover. It was a total splurge for me, but suddenly our bed was insanely comfortable. Ever since then, I’ve seen the value in quality bedding and I’ve slowly been adding new pieces every so often. My latest purchase? 100% Belgian Flax linen sheets that are HEAVEN.

We spend 1/3 of our lives in our beds – shouldn’t it be extraordinary?

Your bedroom is so so gorgeous! I love that bed so much. And the before photo made me giggle. I’ll never understand why anyone would pick a carpet like that.

Absolutely amazing makeover! And I thought my before picture on my tour was bad! Love the wallpaper too! I totally agree with you about the splurge on high quality bedding for comfort. I purchased new Ralph Lauren bedding particularly for this bedroom tour, but now I don’t know how I ever slept without it! https://followtheyellowbrickhome.com/beautiful-bedrooms-tour-cottage-bedroom-reveal/
Thanks for sharing this beautiful room!
