The Sleepout crib mattress is an ultra-safe, breathable crib mattress wrapped in a super soft washable bamboo cover.
The mattress itself is 5.5″ thick and made from organic cotton & wool fibres, thermo-bonded with polyester, and precisely cut to be the recommended size and firmness by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
You may have come across other non-toxic crib mattress companies, but there aren’t many companies making a true organic crib mattress that’s actually made of organic materials.

What does the Greenguard Gold certification actually mean?
- The product has been certified for low chemical emissions

Unboxing This Breathable Baby Mattress
First, we unboxed the mattress and unzipped the waterproof cover to see what was in inside.
The mixture of cotton, wool, and polyester fibers was pretty cool to see!
It wasn’t compressed in the box when it arrived, maintaining its firmness.
As for breathability, it’s obvious the fibers aren’t densely compacted either.
As you can see below, the crib mattress has a perfectly snug fit for all standard size cribs, with an extra firm surface and no gaps in between the rails and mattress.

The Sleepout crib mattress comes wrapped in a waterproof cover that’s super soft, temperature-regulating, naturally stain resistant, hypo-allergenic, and durable too.
Dealing with spit up or a blow out? No problem!
It’s machine washable so simply unzip it and throw it in the washing machine.
We ran our fingers over the Bamboo material and confirmed it’s buttery soft for your baby.
Pro Tip: Pick up an extra mattress cover to swap out in the middle of the night while washing the other!
Why You Need an Organic Cotton Crib Sheet
By choosing a breathable crib mattress and cover, you’ve already made a safe choice for baby sleep.
Remember: Your baby’s face will be resting directly on the crib sheet!
Therefore we recommend choosing an organic cotton crib sheet made of natural materials too.
While safe sleep guidelines say you need a mattress firm, you can still opt for soft bedding to help keep your baby comfy.
Note: Crib sheet only until baby is at least 12 months of age to reduce the risk of suffocation. No other bedding or loose objects should be placed in baby’s crib until then.

Foam Crib Mattresses vs Breathable Mattresses
You may be wondering… what is the difference between foam mattresses and a breathable crib mattress?
A foam baby mattress is usually made of dense polyurethane foam or latex, which makes them lighter and less costly.
The trade off is that they may give off harmful chemicals if they are not Greenguard Gold certified, and these inner mattress materials are also less breathable.
Both of these are good reasons to choose only from organic mattresses for your little bundle of dreams!
