How Our Family Uses the SlumberPod
Our family uses our Slumber Pod A LOT!
Here are three ways you can get the most use out of your Slumber Pod…
1. Use the SlumberPod as a Privacy Sleep Nook for Room Sharing
Staying in an Air BnB or hotel room on vacation? You no longer need to stress about room sharing!
With this blackout pod, you won’t have to worry about waking your baby with the bathroom light or getting into your pajamas.
Even if you book a room with a living room, how many times have you crept into the bed praying they won’t startle and make eye contact? No more!
This is the main reason why I started looking into the Slumber Pod, and it works beautifully.

2. Make the SlumberPod a blackout tent for any room
Heading to grandma’s house or a friend’s for an overnight sleepover?
Sometimes you encounter a sleep situation that’s less than ideal. How frustrating is it when they don’t have blackout curtains or blinds?!
No more getting woken up at 6 am as soon as the sun comes up through the window!
I can’t make promises, but for our children, they slept SO much longer on travel mornings when they were sleeping in the Slumber Pod.
This is the second reason we find the SlumberPod SO worth it!
It’s also perfect for turning any space into a dark room for nap time.
3. Put the Slumber Pod over your pack and play if your kids share a room
Our 2 year old and 1 year old have shared a room for the past year, and those first few weeks no matter how much we yelled – they kept plaRying games and not going to sleep!
My son kept throwing his stuffed animals out which led my daughter to keep jumping out of bed to return them to him, over and over.
We decided to put the SlumberPod around my son’s pack n play and that immediately solved our bedtime problems.
Not having them see each other has allowed them to room share AND not wake each other up first thing in the morning. Hallelujah for good sleep!

How Does the Slumber Pod Work?
The SlumberPod is a bottomless, portable privacy pod that fits over most playards and mini cribs, plus select toddler cots and small inflatable mattresses.
It’s SUPER quick to assemble and take down!
Take a look at the Setup Demo and see for yourself.
SlumberPod Assembly and Setup
Pro Tip: Set up the pod at home before your trip so you know how it works before your baby is in full meltdown mode after traveling!
The most important thing to remember is to make sure poles are fully assembled (fitted together to make one long straight pole ensuring joints are joined securely) before putting the ends in the pole pockets.
After that, it’s all gravy!
Slumber Pod Carrying Bag for Travel
The SlumberPod comes with this fabric carry bag that has a shoulder strap.
It’s absolutely essential for easy travel!
Setup instructions are actually sewn in for convenience.
It’s so compact you can actually fit it in your carry-on luggage!

What is the SlumberPod Made Of and Is it Safe?
SlumberPod Size and Construction
The SlumberPod is made of unique fabric that is breathable (air-permeable) and light-blocking – 85% polyester, 15% spandex.
It has a bottomless design to enclose your travel crib, mini-crib or toddler cot.
The assembled dimensions are 50 inches long, 36 inches wide, 56 inches tall – to give you an idea of where it will fit in a room.
We’ve found it fits great next to any bed, even in tight hotel rooms!
The SlumberPod is also outfitted with ventilation windows and a pocket for your baby monitor or sound machine.
We loved being able to view our children while they’re sleeping throughout the night – just like when they were a newborn.
Slumber Pod Safety Features
First and foremost, SlumberPod’s safety testing was conducted with ALL ventilation flaps closed and NO fan.
The creators of SlumberPod consulted with two different product safety consultants with deep experience in juvenile products, sought counsel from a product safety attorney, and worked with two independent accredited product safety testing laboratories — including using a third-party physician selected by the laboratory — to ensure Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) compliance and safety.
In 2020, they also introduced the SlumberPod 2.0 with these amazing new features:
- Fan pouch designed by airflow experts at ATDC at Georgia Institute of Technology
- Two revised ventilation panels using a fly design that allow for increased airflow while maintaining blackout
- Monitor pouch located higher on the pod, allowing the monitor to be inserted horizontally to capture entire playard, mini-crib or toddler cot
We’ve always felt perfectly safe with our babies sleeping inside of the SlumberPod!

What if my baby or toddler doesn’t want to go into the Slumber Pod?
We discussed above setting up your SlumberPod once at home to get used to it before traveling. When you do this, set it up in the living room so your baby or toddler can explore it at their own pace.
Our family first purchased the SlumberPod when my daughter was already a toddler. She was hesitant about going inside of it at first, but we encouraged her to throw all of her stuffed animals inside to decorate her new bed just how she wanted it.
We had her sleep in the SlumberPod at home overnight for awhile before our first trip traveling with it.
The first night at bedtime she cried when I tried to fully zip it up – so I left it unzipped. The second night I left it 3/4 open and then after a few nights I had her zip it up on her own she started to love it.
Toddlers obviously have WAY more preferences than babies, so if you start them with the SlumberPod younger it will be an easier adjustment.
Are sleep pods safe for babies?
Yes! As discussed above, the SlumberPod has gone through rigorous safety testing to ensure your little one is safe.
One question I received from a friend was… “Will they be trapped once they learn to climb out?”
Keep in mind that it is completely free-standing and doesn’t attach to the playard or travel cot, which means it does not confine or entrap them. There is space left in between and the breathable fabric is so stretchy my toddler can easily pull it up off himself.
Do you need a fan with SlumberPod?
One of the most common questions I get from friends is will my baby get hot sleeping in the SlumberPod?
Neither of my children ever felt sweaty so we never used the SlumberPod fan. However, if you feel like you have a hot sleeper, SlumberPod has multiple ventilation options to ensure they stay completely cool.
First, there are ventilation panels on both the front and back of the SlumberPod that easily raise by toggle pull or velcro.
Second, there’s now a new fan pouch – a pocket on the bottom corner where you insert the fan. When you have the flat at the top open, it creates a vortex of air flow inside.
Pretty cool stuff if you ask me!
How do you put a SlumberPod away?
The SlumberPod stores away in just a few simple steps.
- Pull out the poles and fold them up
- Fold and roll the canopy up neatly
- Slide both the canopy and poles into the carrying bag
The whole take down process takes 5 minutes at most.
