Things to Consider While Shopping for Nursery Lighting

Should I Choose a Flush Mount Light Fixture or a Chandelier?

Before you start looking at nursery lighting fixtures, consider the space and layout of your baby’s room . It’s important to know where any light fixtures you choose will be placed so they don’t pose a safety risk to baby or get in the way while you’re walking around the room.

If you have 8 foot ceilings, unfortunately you’ll likely need to use a flush mount light if it’s going to be installed in the center of the room. Otherwise you’re at risk of knocking your head on the light every time you walk by.

If you have 9 ft ceilings or higher, you likely can hang a chandelier in your nursery, but be sure to still check the minimum height to ensure it won’t come anywhere below 6 1/2 feet from the floor.

What Type of Lighting Should Be in a Nursery?

The right amount of ambient lighting is crucial to creating a well-lit area in your nursery . It gives the illusion that your child’s room is larger than it actually is and helps create an inviting atmosphere.

Whether you choose a chandelier, flush mount, pendant or sconces, the type of lighting is actually determined by the light bulb you choose.

Avoid harsh, bright lighting in baby’s nursery. Using a warm, soft white light bulb will be easier on baby’s eyes!
